The Orange County Department of Education provides quality education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students grades seven through High School residing in Orange and surrounding counties. This program has been recognized as a model of regionalized programming nationwide.

The Orange County Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program is located within the Irvine Unified School District at Venado Middle School and University High School. The program serves over 135 Deaf students living in 28 school districts throughout Orange County. 
 
The program provides:
  • Curriculum aligned with the California State Standards
  • Special Day Classes designed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
  • Opportunities to be mainstreamed in general education classes
  • Ability to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports and student government
 
The Regional Deaf program is supported by the following staff trained in Deaf Education:

  • Counselor
  • Paraeducators
  • School Psychologist
  • Sign Language Interpreters
  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Teachers
