CONNECTIONS Regional Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program

​​​​​​​​​​The Orange County Department of Education provides quality education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students grades seven through twelve and adult transition, residing in Orange and surrounding counties. This program has been recognized as a model of regionalized programming nationwide.

The CONNECTIONS Hard of Hearing Program is located on Irvine Unified School District campuses at Venado Middle School and University High School. Adult Transition Program is located on the Oran​ge Coast College (OCC) campus. The program serves deaf and hard of hearing students living in the 28 school districts throughout Orange County surrounding counties that are referred by their home school district. 

The program provides:

  • Curriculum aligned with the California State Standards.
  • Inclusion opportunities with general education peers.
  • Ability to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports, student government and activities.
 
The Regional Deaf program is supported by the following staff trained in Deaf Education:

  • School Counselor
  • Paraeducators
  • Sign Language Interpreters
  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Adapted Physical Education Specialist
