Video Presentation and Discussion

La Vista High School, Fullerton Joint Union High School District

On January 28, 2011, the members of La Vista’s Friday Night Live chapter held an alcohol and other drug video and discussion activity in their school library. Throughout the day during each class period, the FNL members walked around the school asking teachers to send two students to the library to watch a video about the effect alcohol abuse can have on a person’s life. Following the video, FNL members discussed the message with the students. FNL members successfully showed this video to 150 students on their campus. From promotion and facilitation of the activity, to signing up to bring refreshments, each member had an important leadership role in making this event a success. One FNL member shared, “Overall, I think this was a good experience for the students that watched the video as well as the members of the club that helped organize the activity. As time goes by, with every meeting and every activity that we put together, I think it’s becoming clear to all of us what our duties are and what it means to be a Friday Night Live member.”
