Ready to begin? To enroll in the TPSL training, please email kcrawford@ocde.us with your name and employing agency information.

• Build a strong foundation in classroom teaching strategies and lesson planning
• Understand school policies and California education law
• Develop practical knowledge across 10 essential areas of teaching, including instruction, classroom management, curriculum, ethics, student development, IEPs, and support for English learners
• Complete the 45-hour coursework requirement for your first, second, or third TPSL issuance
• Learn at your own pace by completing modules in any order

• Individuals requested by an employing agency to temporarily serve as the teacher of record during an educator’s statutory leave
• Permit holders who will serve exclusively with the agency requesting the TPSL

Please note: Individuals cannot apply directly to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing for a TPSL. The permit must be requested by an employing agency.

• 45-hour online, self-paced course delivered through Canvas
• Modules may be completed in any order
• TPSL course completion certificate valid for one year
• First and second renewals require an additional 45 hours of TPSL preparation
• Third and subsequent renewals require professional learning aligned with the employing agency’s regular teaching staff, along with agency-verified orientation, mentoring, and support
