What is the OCDE Professional Library?
The Library was established to meet the information needs of the
county office consultants, OC districts, and OC teachers. Much
of the collection was drawn from the various departments here and
organized for quick access. The Library is in its early stages
and will be looking to its customers for suggestions on how to
improve.
What
are the Library hours?
The Library is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. The
phone number is (714) 966-4208.
What
if I have a question and you are closed?
You can call and leave a message, send an email to Richard_Moore@ocde.k12.ca.us,
or log on to: http://www.ocde.k12.ca.us/infolit and
click on Ask a Librarian.
What
kinds of questions do you get?
Usually curriculum related questions, such as, "What resources
are available on-line for ELD teachers?" or, "I would
like to order a good book on assessment strategies. Can you recommend
one?" When a search yields information that seems to be of
general interest, a link to that information is added to the InfoLit
website.
There are also general questions from a variety of sources, such
as folks interested in becoming teachers asking about the process,
schools looking for fund-raising ideas, homeschoolers asking about
resources, questions relating to the Learning Resources Display
Center (LRDC), and schools looking for updates on school library
materials funding.
Who
may use the library? Can I check out materials?
Anyone with an interest in education may visit and browse the collection
and use materials on-site. Some materials are available for checkout,
though most are kept here for use within OCDE. As we grow we expect
to add more materials for circulation.
What is the status of School Library Materials funding?
The funding for 2003-2004 was finally released in April, 2004. Information about it may be
obtained here: http://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/ca/libraryprograms.asp:
Letters & Notices / Apportionment Schedules. As of May, 2004, the School Library Materials fund is
still alive. The Governor's Budget proposal in January has maintained the line item with a balance
of for the 2004-2005 school year. Negotiations will resume over the budget with new numbers in the
Governor's May Budget Revise, but no final decision is expected before late summer.
