Santiago de Compostela Youth Ministry, Lake Forest
On March 17, 2012, the FNL chapter leaders from Santiago de Compostela Youth Ministry invited members of their church and local community to an Underage Drinking Town Hall Meeting. Chapter leaders planned and prepared for this event, which was sponsored by a grant awarded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), to raise awareness and educate those in attendance about the prevalence, risks, and consequences of underage drinking. FNL leaders created and shared a presentation that included national statistics and local data gathered from a survey they administered to the confirmation students at their church to assess youth perception of alcohol use. Santiago de Compostela FNL also invited a panel of speakers to educate their audience, including representatives of Community Service Programs, the California Highway Patrol, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The event also included an Irish dance performance from local youth, food and refreshments, and resource tables showcasing various community partners.
