OCDE Project GLAD® Trainings
The OCDE Project GLAD® NTC has provided training to thousands of teachers across the nation over the past thirty-five years. We are proud to bring the strategies to educators (K-6), while focusing on what it means to teach English learners in the 21st century. GLAD Next Generation® grew out of a desire to present the most salient OCDE Project GLAD® NTC strategies to groups of educators in an action-research based learning environment. GLAD Next Gen™ is three non-consecutive days within a hands-on, learner-centered environment, which can be an introduction to OCDE Project GLAD® NTC strategies, a refresher, or follow-up for educators.
(Audience: 7-12 Educators and Administrators)
OCDE Project GLAD®: Secondary is designed specifically for 7-12 educators. Participants will attend a 2-Day Research and Theory Workshop with teachers across all subject areas and then will attend three non-consecutive demonstration days targeted at their specific subject area. The 2-Day workshop provides participants an opportunity to dialogue and learn with other professionals in the field about research supporting the model and its applications to secondary instruction. The classroom demonstration is a unique opportunity for teachers to observe students using the strategies in their subject area with an OCDE Project GLAD® trainer. A coach will support the participants in meaningful conversations around their observations. In the demonstration afternoons, participants will start planning and preparing materials to support effective implementation.
This one day workshop is a prerequisite for all developing agencies prior to scheduling participants for Tier I training. The purpose of this workshop is to support educational agencies with the development, implementation and sustainability of the OCDE Project GLAD® National Training Center (NTC) instructional model.
Outcomes: Learn how the OCDE Project GLAD® is an instructional model designed to support diverse populations of learners, develop clear understandings about the instructional needs of English learners, discover the essential components of successful implementation and sustainability of the OCDE Project GLAD® Model and develop and design an initial implementation plan that aligns district resources and professional development needs with student learning outcomes.
The OCDE Project GLAD® Tier I Training is available to anyone in the profession of education. It involves a 2-Day Research and Theory Training where participants will have the opportunity to dialogue and learn with other professionals in the field about the research that supports the model and its development, planning support, an introduction to OCDE Project GLAD® NTC units, and exposure to about thirty effective teaching strategies. Following this training will be the Four- or Five-Day Demonstration Lesson. The demonstration is a unique opportunity for teachers to observe students utilizing the strategies with an OCDE Project GLAD® NTC trainer. The participants will be supported by an OCDE Project GLAD® NTC coach, who will facilitate a deeper understanding of the strategies, their variations, and engage participants in meaningful conversations around the model. During the afternoons of the demonstration, participants will be able to start planning and preparing materials to use in their classroom right away to effectively support application and implementation. Follow-up support is also an integral part of this process.
