Gifted learners can be found in all racial, ethnic, and cultural populations as well as all economic strata. In order to realize their academic potential, sufficient access to appropriate learning opportunities is essential as well as support and guidance to develop socially and emotionally.

The Office of Gifted and Talented Education is committed to supporting the needs of diverse gifted and talented students throughout Orange County. Support activities include speaking at District GATE Parent Nights, certification programs, teacher training on differentiation and instructional strategies, conference presentations, and other educational events throughout the year.

Trained teachers using differentiated instruction are essential to enhance the learning of students who are gifted. By using the GATE Standards to differentiate content, process, and product by implementing a variety of methodologies to enhance, extend, and enrich the grade-level content standards that will challenge students and develop talent. Instructional techniques, such as depth and complexity, learning centers, curriculum compacting, and other enrichment activities can extend the grade-level standards to enhance and accelerate gifted student learning.

The Orange County Department of Education GATE office is pleased to offer services and support that can be customized to meet the needs of your district or school.  Please contact Julie Hull for more information.
