Dr. Kinsella details cross-curricular writing instruction imperatives for educators serving English learners and striving readers, including a focused yet accessible analytic rubric for each assignment, targeted lessons on language and rhetorical devices for specific writing types, explicit analysis of an appropriate writing model, and brief, frequent doses of interactive, teacher-meditated writing practice to build critical competencies for longer, independent assignments.  Participants leave with extensive practical resources to facilitate immediate implementation and provide site-based support to colleagues.

Seats are limited, so make sure to get the word out to educators, leaders, and coaches soon to reserve your seat. Dr. Shanahan will address how specific text features might make text hard for students to comprehend. He will take participants through the process of how to guide ALL students in grade level texts through the scaffolding of interpretations of those text features that can interfere with comprehension.

We are excited to share an opportunity for Orange County educators to participate in an engaging learning experience with WestEd! This three-day intensive institute provides teachers and educational leaders with clear methods to implement integrated science, literacy, and English language development (ELD). This institute deepens and broadens understanding of California's ELA, ELD, and Science Standards and the CA ELA/ELD Curriculum Framework. Teachers will learn how to plan and implement integrated and designated ELD. Educators will also feel confident in ensuring equity of both knowledge and language for their English learners within the content areas. An additional day fourth day will be available for participants to focus on leadership or implementation to Spanish dual immersion settings.

This three-day intensive institute focuses on deepening understanding of the components of high-quality instruction that integrates the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, the Standards for Mathematical Practice and the CA English Language Development (ELD) Standards so that all students can experience success in developing conceptual knowledge and the English language simultaneously. The learning is grounded in the CA ELA/ELD and Math Frameworks to ensure that all students develop academic literacy, analytical practices, and deep content understanding in mathematics.

Give yourself the gift of tools that will help you become a better listener and communicator through the Cognitive Coaching training.  Throughout the four days, you will learn how to ask meditational questions that will push another person's thinking instead of coming up with all the answers and solutions yourself.
