ATTENTION: Teachers, School Administrators, and District Technology Leaders
The application window is now open for the 2015 Student Technology Showcase. Please complete the online application. Applications will be accepted through Friday, October 31, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. Apply early!
Each year the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) searches for the best curriculum-aligned technology projects in Orange County. Selected student representatives and their teachers present their projects at the OC Student Technology Showcase, as part of the OC Computer Using Educators Technology Festival each January. Representative Orange County teams are then selected to participate at the annual CUE State Student Technology Showcase in Palm Springs in March. In addition to this recognition, OCDE often highlights the selected projects in its newsletters and draws upon the teachers’ expertise in meetings, videoconferences and other events. Videos are available of each project on the Showcase website. See Showcase archive below.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
Any K-12 Orange County public and private school teacher or group of teachers who integrate technology into their curriculum in an innovative and creative manner. The result should demonstrate students engaged in exciting ways that would not be possible without technology.
WHAT’S THE PROCESS?
After the submission deadline, all project applications will be reviewed by a panel of experts identified by the Orange County Department of Education. Reviewers may include, but are not limited to: OCDE curriculum and technology specialists, district technology coordinators, business and community partners, and OCDE consultants. Reviewers’ preliminary selections are scheduled for site visits to learn more about the project. Upon completion of site visits, reviewers make their final selections for the OC STS.
Selected applicants will allow the OCDE Media Team to be on-site to video and document the project's work in progress as determined by OCDE.
Selected project teams are required to attend a "Dress Rehearsal" on January 13, 2015 at OCDE in Building A. The reviewers will participate, providing feedback to elevate the quality of the project demonstrations.
The "Dress Rehearsal" has two objectives. First, the student teams have an opportunity to practice for an audience prior to the Orange County Student Technology Showcase at OC CUE on January 31, 2015. Second, the review panel will choose several exceptional projects to be showcased during the CUE State Student Technology Showcase on March 21, 2015.
The project team is responsible for transportation to and from the "Dress Rehearsal" at OCDE, the Student Technology Showcase at Serra Catholic School and any other venues or sites associated with participation in the Orange County Student Technology Showcase. The teacher is responsible for obtaining travel permission from parents/guardians for all student participants.
