Proficiency Certification

A team of technology proficient OC teachers have developed a curriculum through which educators can both learn and demonstrate state-defined technology skills for Preliminary Technology Proficiency (Level 1). The curriculum covers nine key components: General Skills and Troubleshooting, Internet, Word Processing, Presentation, Publishing, Spreadsheets, Databases, Email, and Instructional Technology.

Through the completion and presentation of a portfolio of work, in-service teachers are able to demonstrate the "use of appropriate computer-based technology to facilitate the teaching and learning process," as is required by the state standard. Certification is county-based, so that educators can expect their Technology Certification to be honored throughout the region, and eventually, the state.

The certification process includes a "test-out" option for those educators who already have obtained mastery in one or more of the component areas. Through a customized selection process, teachers can choose any area in which they need training and sign up for one of five "modules," based on their particular needs. We are also proud to offer a "Trainer of Trainers" course for district and site technology coordinators who would like to offer certification training in their own school.
