Countywide Charter School Process

Countywide Charter Schools

A charter petition may be submitted directly to OCBE for a charter school that operates at one or more sites within the geographic boundaries of the county and offers instructional services not generally provided by a county office of education.  OCBE may only approve a countywide charter school if it finds, in addition to other requirements, that the educational services provided by the charter school will serve a pupil population that will benefit from those services and that cannot be served as well by a charter school operating in only one school district in the county.  Additional information on countywide charter schools is provided in the links below.

County Charter Schools
A charter school petition may be submitted directly to the Orange County Board of Education (OCBE) in the same manner as a petition submitted to a district governing board if the proposed school will serve students for whom the Orange County Department of Education would otherwise be responsible for providing direct education and related services. For additional information on county charter schools please contact the charter schools unit at (714) 966-4381.
