Orange County Cappies

The Cappies is a writing and awards program that trains high school theater and journalism students to be expert writers, critical thinkers, and leaders. Student critics vie to be published in the Orange County Register by attending productions at other schools and writing critical reviews.

At each show, critics privately discuss the successes and shortcomings of the production under the direction of adult mentors. On deadline, they write reviews for the shows they saw and the top reviews are published by the Orange County Register. All reviews written are sent to the performing school for the performers and technicians to read. At the end of the year, those same critics vote on the shows they saw and awards are given in performance and technical categories in a Tony’s-style gala.
